Sadly, I had a really negative experience. I arrived at Shopmobility, and struggled as the barrier was down, and couldn't reach the intercom button. Thankfully, my daughter had walked to meet me, and pressed the button. Someone answered and still didn't put the barrier down. When I finally got through, I parked and went to hire a scooter. I was informed that I need 4 items of proof of ID and a list of my prescriptions, despite checking the website before I left. None of this information was listed. I was upset (I'm autistic and found this extremely stressful), and the lady at the desk was extremely rude and unhelpful. She spoke over me, and interrupted me several times. I felt unheard. I stood outside extremely upset, with my daughter consoling me. The lady came out and just walked past beside us without acknowledging us. I asked her to please consider how she deals with members of the public, as it was upsetting for me, and I didn't want others to have the experience I've had. She said quite matter of factly that she never meant to. There is no need to talk over people and interupt them. It is unkind. Staff should have training, because to make people feel this way is really unfair. I've been through a difficult time health-wise, many others who use this service will also have health difficulties. There was no consideration or compassion. When I explained I was autistic, there seemed to be little understanding, or awareness. I left feeling extremely sad and upset by this. The process is not inclusive. On leaving, I again faced another barrier, and then the machine tried to charge me for parking when it is free. People with disabilities deserve an inclusive service. Proof of ID I understand, but 4 letters, plus driving licence, and medical prescription list. It's a bit much. Please amend your website with clear instructions. Please train staff to have understanding about autism, and ensure they are empathetic towards their customers. I'm happy to help work with the team on how to make positive changes for service users.
