What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Households arranging a lift for an older relative appear most often among the accounts, and the fitting visit is the recurring theme. Mark and Sean are named by more than one customer, who describe an efficient installation, a thorough walkthrough of the controls and a tidy, good-humoured presence in the home. Comparable praise attaches to a bathroom converted into a wet room, where Kevin and Lewis were called courteous and their standard of work and product knowledge rated highly, the fittings themselves described as well made.

A same-week survey and a swift order confirmation also feature. Set against this, several accounts describe trouble getting through to the aftercare team, waits for an engineer and frustration when a fault reappeared shortly after installation. Complaints also mention slow handling of a removal request and disagreement over who was responsible for a part that had been fitted. The pattern is of sound installation work undermined once the sale is closed, leaving customers to chase repairs and clearer communication.

My 92 year old father has been waiting for days and days for a replacement motor. He has only one toilet which is upstairs. This company have been fobbing him off with no sense of urgency about fixing their failed product. Use someone else if you can.

Mark and Sean did a wonderful job installing a stairlift for my Mother. They were polite, helpful and made sure everywhere was tidy before they left. Thanks to both of them

Engineer came to diagnose a fault. We were told that it is a circuit board fault and the can't get parts anymore! We contacted am independent company who told us that they don't have problems with parts availability. They came and diagnosed no amperage in batteries, replaced them and did a full service check on the whole system. The engineer was amazed that your engineer never even considered checking the batteries (which he didnt) seemed he was more concerned in selling us a new lift! Your engineer wasn't prepared to go tge extra mile and think outside of the box! I call that rubbish service and will not contact you again, if anyone askes about your compant I shall speak the truth! Regards Peter

I am most disappointed with the reliability of my stair lift. If i had spent the same amount on a car it would be at a breakers yard by now. I have suffered for two years with the chair slowing down to less than half normal speed as a consequence i soiled myself on two occasions.Yesterday the chair started on slow speed and at the top of the stairs in the middle of the 900⁰

Mark and Sean are were efficient in instslling the stairlift, informative about the work being undertaken. They were very clear in demonstrating the kit. As a bonus, they were engaging and cheerful about the house - a bit like having a spring day come in. Highly recommended.

I can see we are not the only dissatisfied customers, after only being in for just about four months the brand new stair lift has broken down. My mother called at five and they said they have one engineer per area to attend so couldn’t get to her until “sometime tomorrow”, she cannot use the stars and is a great risk without this and the office staff clam they are unable to do anything!! I will be calling their head office on Monday is this is a breach of contract and the lack of care here is staggering… go somewhere else to buy not here!!!

I had a stair lift fitted with Handicare, no problem when fitted, was informed about the extra 3 years warranty which I paid. After 2 months I tried to call them as it was making s loud noise and shaking, it took me several attempts to get through they either were engaged or knocked me off after 20 minutes or eventually when I got through the receptionist told me that this was not a priority, she informed me when the engineer would be out and the engineer would call me 2 hours before coming to the property. I informed them that my mother was over 90 and was afraid to use it as it was. Eventually this was sorted, but this was the start of many complaints on the stair lift. 3 times the motor was changed, the rollers needed to have WD40 sprayed on them several times as it was making a high sqeaking noise and the chair got stuck at the top of the stairs as it had gone over the charging point, this then caused us to have a new charging point. Each one of the faults was met with the phone call either not being answered or cut off when I did get through it was the same answer and engineer would be out in 5 days and they would call me 2hours before calling at the property When it was time to have a service it was eventually done 3 months late When I chased this up I was informed that they did not have a service engineer for this area. I have now decided to go with a reputable company. Even though it is expensive I need it for my mother's health and safety. If anyone is thinking of getting a stair lift from Handicare THINK AGAIN.
