What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Shoppers and day visitors needing a mobility aid in the city centre describe a simple arrangement at this wheelchair and scooter hire service. Reviewers explain that the premises are not permanently staffed, so arrival means calling a number and waiting briefly for a member of the centre team, who opens the door, assists with registration paperwork and photo identification, and releases the equipment. An aspect raised across a number of reviews is how quickly handover and return are completed, with chairs and scooters issued within minutes of arrival.

The selection is called good, and machines are said to be fully charged and ready. Staff are described as polite, helpful and friendly, and the provision is free, with a modest charge for scooter hire that can be swapped for a car park ticket. Independence is a recurring theme, with users able to move around the centre on their own terms, and several mention how easy booking, finding and contacting the service proves when a chair is needed. Waiting at the locked entrance requires patience, yet the assistance that follows is what users remember.

Brilliant set up. You just ring them up and a security guard will come up to the locked door, let you in and help you fill in the paperwork. Good choice of scooters and wheelchairs, fully charged. Would not hesitate to recommend and it's free of charge with designated parking spaces.

I used Shopmobility Birmingham for the first time yesterday and was delighted with their service. The unit is unmanned so impossible to reach by phone. There is however a telephone number to ring on arrival. One of the centre staff came immediately and opened up for me. I completed two registration forms, showed two forms of photo ID. Drove away within 10 minutes. The same when I returned the scooter. Someone was with me within 5 minutes following my call. This service is completely free on a first come, first serve basis. The best access lift is in the Selfridges end of the Bullring with the lift at the side of Costa Coffee opening straight in front of the unit. Will definitely be using this service again.
